Lyposuction | Liposuction - Liposuction Information

It is the aim of this site to provide liposuction information: information on the procedure, types of lyposuction, areas affected, safety, liposuction side effects and liposuction complications.

Lyposuction (more commonly spelt as liposuction) is the removal of fat from fat deposits beneath the skin using suction from a vacuum via a hollow tube (a cannula).  This operation can be done under local anesthesia, or with intravenous sedation, or under general anesthesia.  Local anesthesia is often preferred as the patient recovers from the operation faster without going through the hazards of a general anesthetic.

Why do lyposuction?

The most common reason is to reduce the fat in unsightly areas on the body, such as the abdomen and the thighs.  This is closely tied up with the concept of beauty.  For example, a person (whether male or female) with a huge abdomen layered in fat is considered by most civilised cultures as being unacceptably ugly.

Lyposuction is both an art and a science.  The liposuction doctor must be well skilled in the science of lyposuction, in his knowledge of anatomy of the human body, and the application of scientific technics of lyposuction on the patient.  He must also have an appreciation of beauty and what is considered beautiful in his day and age, as trends tend to change.  He must also be able to create what is considered as beautiful through his surgical skills and experience, without compromising safety standards.  At the same time he must be able to make his patients happy with what they see after the liposuction procedures.

Lyposuction can be performed in almost all areas where there is fat beneath the skin.  The following are the most commonly performed types of lyposuction.
